Client Questionnaire
Welcome to your Honest Family Portrait Session!
Honest family portraits are for families who want photographs that reflect how life actually feels: layered, connected, and telling your unique story. These sessions suit families who value presence, relationship, and shared moments over perfect arrangements.
Please take a few moments to fill out this questionnaire so that we can create a meaningful experience together. Your answers will help me understand what’s most important to you, and ensure we capture the most authentic and personal moments of this season in your life.
First of all, thank you for trusting me to capture your unique and beautiful family’s story. I find at home family sessions are the most authentic and meaningful.
As you probably know, my style is a merge of Lifestyle and Documentary photography.
Lifestyle photography captures people in real-life situations, with informal posing, documenting natural responses. It involves interaction with the photographer, while Documentary photography is more observational. In Documentary photography, the photographer has no input; just captures what happens, when it happens, and how it happens.
I'm going to be honest with you: I don't like to feel restricted when it comes to creativity, so I say I merge both styles because I like to see what each situation, each mother, each family is asking for to tell their story. I mostly prefer to capture life as it unfolds.
For at home family sessions I always recommend you think of a few activities you could all engage in, maybe cooking together or playing a game. Think of something you all enjoy doing and were everyone is part of it and that you would like your children to remember from their childhood. Everyday moments like bedtime routines can also make some very special pictures.
Be yourselves! Don't worry about how the children behave or what they are up to. The goal of our sessions is to tell you family’s story just as it is, unique, authentic, beautiful.
What to expect from our session:
One of the best things about documentary family photo shoots is that you don’t have to prepare anything. My aim is to document your life as it is, the everyday things you do as a family.
I will arrive at your house at the time we agree and we will have a few moments to warm up to each other and for children to get used to me and my camera. I will then ask you to have a tour around the house so I can study a bit the light and composition of the place and maybe suggest a few places. Then you can continue with your family routine and we will start creating memories together. It will be relaxed, organic, beautiful, and led by you and your family.
Children:
I always recommend you let you children know out what is going to happen and that you make a special day out of it!
What to wear:
If you have invested in this session, you are probably excited about planning for it, and you want to make sure that everything goes great!
One of the most fun parts of preparing for your session is planning what you will wear.
I know some of you stress about what to wear, but trust me, you don't have to. While I don't style my families, I do help them along the way if they ask. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Here are some basic tips in preparing your outfits:
Mom, this is your time to shine! Choose something you feel amazing in and build the family's outfits around yours. Be yourself.
Coordinate, don't match. You can make sure that what everyone's wearing goes well together, but it doesn’t look natural if you are all wearing the same colours.
Stay away from graphics and fluorescent colours. If your kids wear bright neon orange or yellow, this means your kid's face will be bright neon orange or yellow.
Layers work beautifully. They add texture and movement, and they’re great for keeping everyone cozy.
If it resonated with you, I recommend choosing comfortable clothes in plain, earthy tones, think soft neutrals, warm browns, gentle greens, creams, and muted blues.
Comfort always wins!
